Foley, Smith run to titles at Mariah’s Half Marathon

Butte runners Don Foley and Rebecca Smith won overall titles in the half marathon at the Mariah’s Challenge Half Marathon and 5K Sunday in Butte.

Foley, 45, finished the 13.1-mile course 1 hour, 29 minutes, 18 seconds. Clark Christensen placed second, just four seconds back. Jeff Braun placed third in 1:30:07. (Overall results; Age group results)

Smith, 37, was the fastest woman, finishing in 1:42:40. Amie Nitchey took second in 1:58:45, and April Egan placed third in 2:03:23.

In the 5-kilometer (3.1 miles) race, Anaconda’s Lisa Choquette and Butte’s Max Kluck claimed overall titles.

Kluck, 11, won topped the male field in 23 minutes, 6 seconds. Seth Grant was second at 24:36, and Keaton Warner took third in 25:27.

Choquette, 30, won the female race in 19:56. Amber Wood-Jensen crossed in 24:47.8 for second place. She beat Carrie Holland by a tenth of a second.

In all, 122 runners and walkers braved the windy conditions to compete in the 5K. Twenty runners finished the half marathon.

Proceeds from the race go to the Mariah Daye McCarthy Scholarship Fund.
