The success of last spring’s Mariah’s Challenge 5K Fun Run bolstered support for an even bigger, even better event. Enter: The Mariah’s Challenge Half Marathon and 5K, unlike anything the Mining City has seen before.
The race will take place on September 20, 2015 at the Copper Canyon Harley Davidson Dealer just off Continental Drive south of Butte. Though details are still being worked out, it is being said that both the half-marathon and the 5K courses will pass by the cross on Blacktail Lane, memorializing the crash site that took the life of Mariah McCarthy.
“It’s important for us to put on a great event that will help us approach our annual fundraising goals for Mariah’s Challenge, but to also take this opportunity to honor Mariah. I know she’s looking down with a smile,” said Jenna McCarthy, who organized 2014’s race as a part of her Master’s Degree at Montana Tech.
The half marathon registration costs $55 before July 1; then jumps to $75. The 5K fees are $20 and $30 respectivly. All proceeds go directly to the Mariah Daye McCarthy Scholarship Foundation. Organizers are still seeking race sponsors and volunteers. Those interested can contact McCarthy at jennamccarthy@hotmail.com.
